The International Agency of Research on Cancer (IHRC) in 2011, issued a warning that "cell phones might possibly cause brain cancer." Mobile phones emits radiation. Although radiation is useful in medical field for treating and diagnosing some illnesses, it harmful effect shouldn't be overlooked. Studies have shown that prolong exposure to radiation can cause cancer. Women who are in the habit of keeping their phone in their bra to prevent theft can develop breast cancer. Men who also keep their cell phone constantly in their trouser pocket increases the risk of developing testicular cancer.
Knowing this, what you do think will happen if one continue to expose the brain to radiation from the cell phone by sleeping with it under the pillow. Prolong exposure of the brain to radiation can cause brain tumour and brain cancer. It can prevent optimal sleep, cause memory impairment and learning disorder. To prevent yourself from these health problems, you should never sleep with your cell phone under your pillow. If you must do, it is either you switch it off, put it in flight mode or place it about 20cm away from your bed. Do you think you can stay without your cell phone at night?
I can't see any reason not to turn off the phone and night and think it is silly to sleep with it. It's about sleep, not staying in touch.
ReplyDeleteI know people are literally connected to their phones but sleeping with them seems over the top. Besides the health risk, we just saw on the news where a young girl's phone - under the pillow - caught fire. Definitely an unsafe practice, no matter how you look at it.

I can't imagine why anyone would want to sleep with their phone under their pillow. Do people actually do this?
ReplyDeleteWow. Who knew. Well there goes my Sleep Analysis app. I'm deleting it from my cell as soon as I share your important post. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteReally, there are people who sleep with their phones. I think the problem is not the radiation, but that people do not know how to disconnect from their devices. We turn our devices off, and let them charge, people need to know how to do the same.
ReplyDeleteI never ever thought about sleeping with my phone... LOL. The fact is the ringtone is loud enough the wake the dead from a distance... Bigger LOL. :-)
ReplyDeleteI really didn't need another reason to not put my cell phone under my pillow, but this is certainly a good one.
ReplyDeleteWe didn't even take our phones to our bedrooms as we have a phone line in our room if anyone wants to get in touch. But since I got the smart phoneswhich does so much more we put away the alarm clock and use the smart phones to wake us up with our favourite religious songs. I keep them on the side table and not under my pillow.
ReplyDeleteI have no desire to sleep with my phone under my pillow. It is plugged in nearby as I have no landline, but I have no issues "disconnecting" at night!
ReplyDeleteHello; improvement in cell phone design has lessened the potential risks from regular use of cell phones, but I still wouldn't want to sleep with mine. I wouldn't put it under the pillow because I'd be afraid it would overheat and cause a fire. I think your last statement about the negative effects on sleep being the most important part of your post. lack of quality sleep can lead to so many medical issues that this concern should definitely not be overlooked when evaluating your phone use. thanks for sharing, Max
ReplyDeleteI don't put the phone under my pillow. My phone will usually stay in the bag unless I am using it. I have doubts about my daughter though. Guess, it is a good time to ask where she keeps her phone when sleeping....
ReplyDeleteSleeping with the pillow under the bird is a no, no for me. It is risky. I keep my phone far away from me while asleep.
