Tomatoes And Skincare - For Acne, Sunburn, Glowing Skin And Sunscreen



Some people say it is the world's healthiest food and there seem to be confusion as to whether it is a fruit or a vegetable. Tomato fruit (Solanum lycopersium) belong to the nightshade family (Solanaceae). Tomato is used in various ways, it can be eaten raw, used as ingredient in dishes, sauces and drinks. Tomatoes is loaded with large amount of lycopene, one of the most powerful antioxidant which help to fight free radicals. They contain vitamin A, B1, B2 and C with micro nutrients such as potassium, iron, calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, iodine and cobalt.

Tomatoes have great effects on the skin when use topically and eaten as food. Due to their acidic nature, they keep the skin free of oil thereby reducing the appearance of acne. They also improve the skin complexion and it depend on the amount of it taken. Tomatoes works wonders on the skin especially when mixed with other effective skincare natural ingredients such as honey, milk, yoghurt, cucumber etc. It can perform various beneficial effects on the skin. For facial and skin care purposes, tomatoes should be used raw.

Tomato Skin Application
For sunburn
*. Mix 2 teaspoons of tomato juice with 4 tablespoons of buttermilk. Apply it all over your skin. Leave for 30 minutes and wash off.

For acne removal
*. Blend fresh tomato and enough milk powder together to make a paste. Apply this paste thoroughly to the skin. Leave it for 10 to 15 minutes and then rinse off with water.

*. Mix 2 teaspoons of fresh tomato juice and add a few drops of natural cucumber juice. Using a cotton wool ball, apply mixture gently to cleanse the skin. Make sure the entire face is properly covered. Repeat with new balls of cotton wool until the skin is clean with no dirt, or oil on the skin.

*. Mash a tomato and allow the pulp to rest on the face for about 60 minutes and then wash off.

For cleansing and moisturizing
*. Blend half fresh tomato with fresh cucumber and add 2 tablespoons of honey. Rub on the face and neck. Leave for 15 minutes and rinse. This mask is very effective and is okay for those with sensitive skin.

*. Mash a tomato, strain the pulp and mix the juice with milk. Apply on the face for about 10 minutes and then rinse off. Make sure you wash your face before applying.

For glowing skin 
*. Mix tomato juice with honey and apply to your face and neck. Leave for 15 minutes and then rinse off. This will make the skin smooth, glowing and more youthful. For better effect use cool tomato.

For exfoliating
*. Cut a fresh tomato into two pieces. Dip the one piece of tomato in a small bowl of sugar and rub the tomato pieces on the face. It removes dead cells from the skin and makes the skin glow.

For opening pores
*. Mix 2 tablespoons of tomato juice with 2 tablespoons of lemon juice in a bowl. Dip a cotton wool ball in the mixture. Rub the cotton wool ball on the skin slowly to open pores. Wait for 10-15 minutes and then rinse with cool water.

For shrinking pores
*. Make a mixture of fresh tomato juice with lime juice. Massage the mixture into the skin and leave for 15 minutes and then wash off.

For oil removal  
*. Mix 2 tablespoons of tomato juice with 2 tablespoons of cucumber juice. Apply mixture on the oily face. Wash the face after 10 minutes. This will cleanse the skin and remove oil from the skin. Suitable for those with oily skin.

For Sunscreen
*. Mix thoroughly 1 cup of fresh tomato juice with 1 cup of natural coconut water. Put the solution into a spray bottle. This is most useful when basking in the sun at the beach. To use, agitate the spray bottle before spraying the liquid on all areas of the skin that is exposed to the sun, face inclusive.
