Dandruff is a fungal infection. Malassezia, a yeast-like fungus is responsible for dandruff. So you know why anti-fungi products such as ketoconazole is often prescribed for dandruff. There are no perfect treatments for dandruff but some products have been proven to reduce the occurrence of dandruff. Shampoo is one of such products. Shampoo can get rid of dandruff. Look for anti-dandruff shampoos that contains zinc pyrithione, ketoconazole, coal tar, selenium sulphide and salicylic acid. Wash your regularly with any of these shampoos. When shampooing do not scratch the scalp, only massage thoroughly. It is recommended that you change shampoo after sometime so that the dandruff don't get use to a particular shampoo and acquire resistance.
There are natural remedies too for dandruff. Coconut oil is effective against dandruff. To use coconut oil, mix it with lemon juice and rub it on the scalp and massage thoroughly. Leave in on for 20 minutes and then wash off. You should repeat this process untill you no longer have dandruff.

Baking soda is another product you can use to get rid of dandruff. Rub a handful of baking soda into the scalp and rinse thoroughly. Always use when you need to wash your hair.
Above all, always brush, comb or wash your hair regularly. Note that not all dryness or flaky scalp is caused by dandruff. It is better to know the exact skin condition before you commence treatment. If you experience persistent dandruff, it is advised to see your dermatologist.
Dandruff irritates. sometimes the itching can be so intense that the scalp make you feel discomfort.
