How To Use Cucumber For Skincare



Cucumber (Cucumis sativus) is a creeping vine plant belonging to the Cucurbitaceous family. It is a vegetable cultivated worldwide and is best harvested when it is young. Cucumber contain 95% water. Cucumber is beneficial to skin, apart from all other health benefits. No wonder it is often referred to as a superfood. To maintain a healthy skin, cucumber should be the ideal product for that glowing young looking complexion skin. Cucumber can correct so many skin problems. It can be used to treat skin irritations, sunburns, cellulite, hydrate and moisturize the skin, rejuvenate the skin, treat open pores, cleanse the skin, reduce dark circles, treat blemishes, reduce inflammation and redness of the skin, treat pimples and acne. Where else can you find any skincare product that does all of these? Its efficacy to do wonders is made possible because cucumber is rich in vitamin A, B and C. It also contains potassium, folate, magnesium, manganese, silicon and is filled with so many antioxidants.

Now that we've come to know what great things cucumber can do to skin, the question which now arises is; How can one use or apply cucumber to skin?

Here are different ways you can use cucumber for different skin conditions.

*. Blemishes and freckles
Extract fresh cucumber juice and apply all over the face. Simple as that!

*. Dark circles
Slice fresh cucumber and place two slices on the eyes and leave it on for 15-20 minutes.

*. Rejuvenating the skin
Extract the juice and mix with drops of lemon juice. Apply on the face. Wash off after 30 minutes. Your skin will glow.

*. Open pores
Extract the juice and mix it with tomatoes juice. Apply on the face and leave it on for 20 minutes. Wash off with water. It is also effective in treating acne.

*. Cellulite
Mix cucumber juice with honey and ground coffee to make a paste. Apply on the skin. Cover it with muslin cloth and exfoliate gently after 20-30 minutes.

*. Skin cleansing
Mix one teaspoon of cucumber juice with one teaspoon of milk and 1/4 teaspoon of lime juice. Leave it on for 15 minutes and wash off with warm water.

*.  For skin lightening
Mix one tablespoon of cucumber juice with drops of lime juice. Add a dash of rose water. Apply on the face or body area. Leave for 30 minutes and then wash off with water.

For all round regular skincare maintenance, you could try the cucumber yoghurt face mask. Make a puree of peeled cucumber with yoghurt and apply it on the face. Leave it on for 15 minutes and wash off with water. The remarkable thing about this mask is, it exfoliate, moisturize, treat sunburn and reduces the appearance of pimples. This mask can be used on all skin types. For other skin conditions, for examples reducing fine lines and wrinkles, you should include cucumber in your diet.
