Knowing the causes of stretch marks is the first step of prevention.
Stretch marks are caused by hormonal changes, rapid weight gain,
pregnancy, puberty, use of topical steroids and rare genetic disorders. Making lifestyle changes
is second step to prevention. There are certain things you must
do that can help to prevent stretch marks. As we all know, stretch marks
affects the skin, so it is important to take care of the skin. The skin
has elastin fibers and collagen (a rich protein compound). They support
the skin to keep it in shape, stronger and improve its elasticity. If
they become weakened, there is possibility that stretch marks will occur.

How can you keep the skin in shape so as not to lose its elasticity?
- Eat foods that will help you maintain a healthy skin. Diet for healthy skin are foods that contain vitamin B, C, E and minerals such as zinc and silicon.
- Remember that rapid weight gain or obesity can result to stretch marks, therefore it is imperative to lose weight. Engage yourself with exercise. Exercise can help tone the skin, thereby making it firmer and taut. If you must gain weight, it is advisable to do so gradually.
- Hydrate the skin by always drinking water. Water detoxify the skin and increases resistance to stress caused by stretching. Drink 8 classes of water per day.
- Keep the skin supple by applying cream containing collagen. Beware of the kind of cream you rub on your skin. Cream containing sulfates causes dryness and they slowly reduces the elasticity of the skin. Moisture the skin by applying natural oil such as bio-oil, almond oil, shea butter or cocoa butter.
Above all, consult a dermatologist who knows best on how you can best prevent stretch marks.
