Have you seen beet root before? In some regions of the world beet root is unknown. It is naturally found in parts of North Africa, Asia and Europe. Beet root is a dark red vegetable with edible taproots and greens. Beet root contains vitamins, minerals, protein, carbohydrates and low fat. The pigment betacyanin found in the plant is responsible for its colour. Some of the health benefits are worth knowing.

According to research, nitrate in beet root have been found to lower blood pressure. Nitrate is converted into nitric oxide that aid the blood vessels to relax and dilate, thereby improving blood flow. If you are having high blood pressure, beet root can be a remedy. Drinking the juice can help you lower your blood pressure.

Folic acid is found in beet root and is beneficial for those suffering from anemia and it does relieve one of fatigue. It is rich in iron which improve stamina.

Beet root prevent cholesterol buildup in the body. It contains high amount of flavanoids and betacyanin that help reduce the oxidation of LDL cholesterol and prevent them from forming plaque in the arteries.

Beet root is packed with silica which helps the body to utilize calcium efficiently and prevent osteoporosis.

Beet root fight against cancer. The betacyanin it contains suppresses the growth of cancerous tumors.

Diabetes patient can make use of beet root to lower glucose level and increase insulin sensitivity. Alpha-lipoic acid is the reason behind it.

Consumption of food with high fiber content can prevent constipation. Beet root is high in fiber and thus is helpful in maintaining a healthy digestive tract.

  1. I guess, I am not familiar with beet roots, I have tried to figure it out, but no way, maybe because it is not common here or is their any other local name for it down here? It will surely be good for the aged for the health benefits it offers

  3. My husband and I love beetroot and have them at least once a week. I've known for years that beets were good if you were anemic but wasn't aware that it prevents cholesterol buildup. Good to know.
